A study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry compared the intranasal formulation of esketamine, a part of the ketamine molecule, to a drug used in the rapid treatment of symptoms of deep depression.
The Yale School of Medicine in the US included 68 participants for this study. One of these was given acetaminophen, and the other was administered another drug. Along with this, he was being given anti-depressant treatment.

He was then periodically examined. Investigators found that people who had been given acetaminophen had significantly reduced depression compared to those provided other medications, as well as decreased suicidal measures such as suicide.
Researchers believe that it takes 4 to 6 weeks for a most antidepressant to be fully effective, so esketamine may prove to be an essential treatment. Scientists have said that more research is needed right now.
