Smartphones and The Internet are Spoiling Minds

Ever wondered what effect the smartphone and the internet would have on the brain? Researchers in South Korea claim that addiction to the Internet and smartphones spoils the chemistry of the human mind (spoiling minds).

The team working with Hyung Suk Seo, a professor of radiology at a South Korean university, claims that using the Internet and smartphones affects the chemistry of the brain.

Researchers have found such symptoms in their study done on 19 teenagers aged 15 years. According to the researchers, all these teenagers involved in the investigation were struggling with addiction to smartphones or the internet.

Doctors wanted to find out whether smartphone or internet addiction had any effect on the brain? A test was done for this. In the test, they were asked what level of internet or smartphone they use.

Tired Eyes

The light emanating from the screen of the smartphone is the highest blue light. There is a lot of pressure on the eyes to look at the screen for a long time. The next day, there is a discomfort in the eyes. Doing this for a long time may affect the pupil of the eyes.

Investigation On Neurotransmitters

The doctors took a 3D image using Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) of the brains of all those involved in the investigation. It acts like an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging).

Like MRI imaging, MRS is also able to show the fabric and the chemical material present in cells. Researchers are particularly interested in the investigation of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).

It is a kind of neurotransmitter in the brain that slows or stops the signal being sent to the brain. Also, the amino acids exposed to GABA are found with glutamate and glutamine. (spoiling minds)

This GABA has a major impact on all the functions of the brain, such as curiosity, anxiety, sleep, etc.

Research showed that the level of GABA increases in specific parts of the brain in the brain of adolescents suffering from the Internet and smartphone addiction.

This growth affects the chemistry of their brains. Research has shown that the difference in chemical content in the brain increases symptoms like stress, depression, and anxiety.
